On April 24, 2024, Richard Green released his evocative single “A Story,” a defining moment in his evolving musical journey. Featured as the opening track of his second EP, A Journey, the composition captures the essence of the human condition, portraying life as a story filled with highs and lows, love, challenges, and personal growth.
At its core, “A Story” reflects Green’s vision of music as a narrative form—one that mirrors the complexities of life itself. The piece moves fluidly between different sections, weaving together neoclassical foundations with vibrant blues-jazz influences. This alternating dynamic gives the song its originality, setting it apart as one of the most distinctive works in Green’s discography.
Green himself compares life to a personal story: “Essentially, ‘A Story’ represents what everyone has to live—the story of our life, our personal story with our experiences, bad moments, good moments, loves…”
The single forms part of Green’s ambitious three-EP trilogy, a project that emphasizes musical storytelling. While Green serves as the composer, the project thrives through collaboration with extraordinary musicians:
-
Irene Veneziano (piano): A world-renowned Italian pianist, celebrated internationally for her mastery of classical repertoire. Her interpretations bring depth and nuance to the compositions.
-
Archimia (string quartet): A highly regarded ensemble that provides rich textures and dynamic expressiveness to Green’s arrangements.
The idea for the project initially took root when Green began writing music for Veneziano. What began as a few piano and string compositions quickly evolved into a grand artistic endeavor: “Once Irene accepted and enjoyed the first two tracks, I had the idea to write a proper story in music,” Green recalls.
Though the music was written in London, recording took place at the prestigious Studio Elfo in Piacenza, Italy—an esteemed venue near Milan known for its professional environment and world-class production quality. Green has recorded all the tracks of the trilogy at this studio, highlighting its importance in shaping the sound of the project.
“A Story” is part of the trilogy that includes three interconnected EPs:
-
The Circle Closes – the first release.
-
A Journey – the second installment, which opens with “A Story.”
-
First Chapter – the forthcoming final EP, set for release in the months following.
Together, the three works form a complete musical narrative. Green explains: “The most important point of this project is its artistic side. It’s like a story told in music. To make the story clearer for the listener, each tune has its own image to represent it.” These images are featured in a mini book included with the physical release of A Journey, adding a visual dimension to the storytelling.
While Green has not yet performed “A Story” live, he envisions bringing the trilogy to the stage once the final EP is released. His goal is to collaborate with the same musicians—Veneziano and Archimia—who brought the recordings to life.
For Richard Green, “A Story” is more than a single track; it represents the heart of his creative philosophy. By blending classical elegance with the improvisational spirit of blues and jazz, he creates a space where music becomes a universal language of human experience. It stands as one of the most artistically ambitious and emotionally resonant works in his catalog.
As Green reflects, this project is “surely the most artistic creation so far—an original piece of music with a lot of creativity, made possible thanks to the incredible performances of the musicians involved.”
With “A Story,” Richard Green reaffirms his place as a bold innovator in contemporary neoclassical music—an artist committed to telling the universal story of life through sound.
