Grimy, loud, and unapologetically raw — CIVIC are charging ahead with their third album, Chrome Dreams, set to drop next month. The Australian rockers, who cut their teeth in the country’s DIY punk scene, are leveling up fast. They’re now sharing the stage with the likes of the Sex Pistols (or at least the latest iteration of them), and if their new material is anything to go by, they’re more than ready.
We’ve already heard the ferocious title track, but CIVIC’s latest release, “The Hogg,” takes things even further. Described by the band as a response to its own “disgusting-sounding riff,” the track is a serrated, high-octane beast that punches straight through your speakers — think Hot Snakes with even sharper edges.
The accompanying video doesn’t hold back either. A woman sits calmly at a table loaded with desserts, only to descend into a manic, sugar-fueled frenzy. It’s strange, chaotic, and kind of perfect for the song’s unhinged energy.
