Two-time Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Eric Alexandrakis delivers a poignant, uplifting tribute to the late Raul Malo with his single “One More Angel”. Originally written by Malo and Alan Miller for the 2009 solo record LUCKY ONE, the track carries profound emotional weight, serving as an affectionate farewell following Malo’s passing in December 2025. Drawing from a 30-year connection to Malo and The Mavericks, as well as his own personal experience as a cancer survivor, Alexandrakis transforms what could have been a somber recording into a vibrant celebration of life.

The track rejects melancholy, instead leaning into a joyous, uplifting arrangement designed to comfort anyone navigating grief. Alexandrakis sings lead and handles the core production, surrounding his vocal delivery with a rich tapestry of acoustic and classical textures. The track features multi-instrumental support from E.J. Ouellette on violin, viola, mandolin, and slide electric guitar, while former Mavericks member Michael Guerra adds subtle accordion layers. Supported by Leo Nobre on bass, Tanner Hughes on drums, Theresa Bentley on harp, and backing vocals from Penrian Brae, the arrangement swells with life.
Mastered by frequent collaborator Paul David Hager, the production achieves a warm, cinematic clarity that lets every organic layer shine through. Released alongside a planned limited-edition 500-unit vinyl run with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society, “One More Angel” captures the enduring power of music to process heartbreak, honoring a legendary voice with energy, gratitude, and undeniable craft.
